One file. Eight categories.
Vault Finance is a single HTML file you keep in your Documents folder. Opening it loads the entire tracker in your browser: a savings goal, per-category budgets, and a transaction log that remembers every month you have recorded. Nothing installs, nothing signs you in, and nothing is sent anywhere.
Savings goal ring

Before you buy.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
Neither. Vault Finance is one HTML file that runs entirely on your own computer. There is no sign-up screen, and once the file is downloaded it works with the Wi-Fi switched off.
Where is my financial data stored?
In your browser's local storage on the computer where you opened the file, under the keys vf_tx and vf_budgets. It never leaves your machine and we never see it. The flip side is worth knowing: clearing your browser's site data, or opening the file in private/incognito mode, will erase what you have entered. Export to CSV periodically if the history matters to you.
Will it sync between my laptop and my phone?
No. Because the data lives in one browser on one computer, opening the file elsewhere gives you a fresh, empty copy. If you want your numbers in one place, pick the machine you actually sit down at.
Does it connect to my bank?
No, and that is deliberate. You type transactions in yourself, which is slower than an automatic feed but means no credentials are shared with anyone and the file keeps working forever.
Can I add or rename the categories?
The eight categories are fixed. That constraint is the point — most abandoned budgets die under a category list that grew to forty entries.
